How do I create a SSL-Certificate? Print

  • 0

You will need to login into cPanel and find the SSL-Manager. The SSL/TLS Manager will allow you to generate ssl certificates, signing requests, and keys. These are all parts of using SSL to secure your website. SSL allows you to secure pages on your site so that information such as logins, credit card numbers, etc are sent encrypted instead of plain text. It is important to secure your site's login areas, shopping areas, and other pages where sensitive information could be sent over the web.

Please file a ticket with Security and request us to create for you a Certificate Signing Request (CSR). You might do that in cPanel yourself but note that you need to puchase a dedictaed IP to be able to run SSL (mandatory by authorities) When you purchase through GWS-Host the IP is included.

We need for the CSR from you:

Hostname: (this is your domain name with or without the www, the ssl will only work one way or the other.)
Email:
Street Address:
Country (2 letter abbrev):
State (no abbrev):
City:
Postal Code:
Company:
Division:
Password (of your choosing):

We will send you the CSR and the generated key. These infos are needed by the provider of the SSL if you choose to purchase the Certificate elsewhere. When you have entered all the info in the screen for the SSL-request (use Apache-OpenSSL!) you will be asked an email of the authorizing party. An email is send to this email address requesting to authorize the SSL-purchase. Once you have done this you will receive on the admin-contact you have given the Certificate. These infos you have to enter in your cPanel's SSL-manager.

Note we provide this service free when you purchase a Geotrust certicficate (With free seal) from GWS-Host
